Where We Work in Honolulu
Honolulu is where a large share of our calls come from, and we work all over town, Kahala included. Further east, our page on roofing in Hawaii Kai covers that side of the city.
A leak after heavy rain, wind damage, an older roof an insurer has flagged, a check before a sale: whatever the reason for the call, the visit and the estimate work the same way in every neighborhood.
Roofing Services for Honolulu Homes and Businesses
- Roof repair: leaks, storm damage, cracked tiles and failed flashing, fixed where the problem is.
- Roof replacement: a new roof from start to finish, in shingle, tile, metal or a flat system.
- Roof inspection: a close look at the roof’s condition before you buy, sell or renew your insurance.
- Emergency roofing: temporary cover to keep the water out when a storm opens the roof, then the proper fix.
- Commercial roofing: repairs, replacement and upkeep for commercial roofs, flat and low-slope systems included.
- Roof coating: seals and protects the surface of a roof that is still sound.
How to Check a Roofer Before You Hire
A few checks are worth running on any roofer, us included, before anyone climbs a ladder:
- The license. In Hawaii, roofing work beyond the smallest jobs needs a licensed contractor, and the state’s contractor rules (HAR 16-77-83) require the license number in advertising. Ours is C-37710, held by First Class Roofing LLC, and you can confirm it on the state’s public license search.
- Insurance. Ask for a certificate of insurance. Ours covers general liability and workers’ compensation.
- A written estimate. The scope, the price and the timeline should be on paper before you sign anything.
- Reviews and credentials. See what past customers say about how the job went. We’re rated 5.0 across more than 90 Google reviews, accredited by the BBB with an A+ rating, and certified by GAF.

Common Questions
How do I choose a roofer in Honolulu?
Check four things before you hire anyone: a state contractor license you can look up, a certificate of insurance, a written estimate that spells out the work, and what past customers say about the whole job, not only how it ended. Be careful with anyone who pushes you to sign on the spot or won’t put a price in writing.
What is the 25% rule for roofing?
The 25% rule is a Florida building-code rule, not a Honolulu one. In Florida’s building code (Existing Building, Section 706.1.1, 2023 edition), repairing or replacing more than 25% of a roof section within 12 months can require the whole section to be redone to current code, depending on when the roof was built. Honolulu’s building code has no rule like it: repair or replace comes down to the roof’s condition, and we’ll tell you which makes sense once we’ve seen it.
How much does a new roof cost in Honolulu?
What a new roof costs in Honolulu depends on the size and pitch of the roof, the material, what has to come off first, and how hard the roof is to reach. Our guide to roof replacement cost walks through each of those, and we price your roof only after looking at it.
Will insurance cover a 20-year-old roof?
Whether insurance covers a 20-year-old roof depends on your policy and your insurer, so start with the policy itself. If the roof has storm damage, we can look at it, document what we find and help with the claim paperwork. The insurer decides what is covered.
Do I need a permit for a new roof in Honolulu?
In Honolulu, reroofing a one- or two-family home needs no City building permit when the work doesn’t affect the roof’s structure. That exemption is in Honolulu’s building code (Revised Ordinances of Honolulu, Section 18-3.1). Work on the structure itself, such as the framing, needs a building permit. Condos and commercial buildings aren’t covered by that exemption, so ask us before the job is priced.
Can a handyman fix my roof?
A handyman without a contractor’s license can take on only a small roof job. Under Hawaii’s contractor licensing law (HRS 444-2), that means work where labor and materials together come to $1,500 or less, and never work that needs a building permit or is one piece of a larger job split up. Anything else needs a licensed contractor.
